05-05-11 - Westfield 5th Alarm - 14 Elm St
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, May 5th 2011 the Westfield NJ Fire Department responded to 14 Elm St, the Ferraro’s Restaurant on a reported fire. First due companies quickly requested a 2nd alarm as they arrived to a fully involved 25x40 pizza restaurant attached to a row of stores including a 3sty mixed occupancy. As companies continued to arrive and exterior operations were put into place, smoke began showing from the cockloft of the adjacent stores. Additional alarm levels were requested for about 2 hours as fire consumed a 2sty rear section of the fire building. Crews were able to contain the fire from spreading to the adjacent stores beyond smoke / water damage. The fire was brought under control within a few hours.
