10-20-09 - Moonachie 3rd Alarm - 10 Empire Blvd

On Tuesday, October 20th 2009 the Moonachie NJ Fire Department responded to 10 Empire Blvd, the Sara Lee company, on a reported building fire. First arriving units reported embers falling onto the street as they approached the commercial complex. Crews found heavy smoke and fire visible on the top of a 5sty tower located to the rear of the building. A mutual aid engine and truck were requested along with 2 additional engines shortly thereafter. As crews began advancing hand lines and reaching the seat of the fire additional manpower was needed thus a 3rd alarm was requested. Crews operated throughout the night as hot spots smoldered in various areas of the tower. Some firefighters were treated for heat related issues.
