On Friday, January 4th 2013 the Rutherford NJ Fire Department responded to the area of Ames Ave and Park Ave for a reported fire. First arriving companies found heavy fire showing out the front windows of 8 Ames Ave which was a 1sty barber shop and adjacent nail salon. Mutual aid was quickly requested due to down power lines, heavy fire conditions, and attached exposures in immediate threat. Crews began conducting exterior operations while gaining entry into adjacent exposures to prevent extension. A 3rd alarm was later requested for coverage as 2nd alarm companies continued to operate. With collapsed portions of the cockloft preventing suppression, it was decided to later pull the A side wall to gain access to the fire. Once down, crews were able to quickly knock down remaining fire. There were no reported injuries.
