On Friday, January 8th, 2010 the Belleville NJ Fire Department responded to 258 Washington Ave on a reported fire. On arrival command reported heavy fire in the basement of a 3sty mixed occupancy building. The building was the original home of Belleville City Hall. Companies advanced hand lines into the basement as smoke became visible from several doors and windows. Mutual aid was requested immediately as companies began finding fire extending up the exposure “A” wall into the 1st and 2nd floors.
Crews eventually cut several holes in the flooring of the 1st floor to gain access to the fire and mutual aid companies opened up numerous walls on the upper floors to contain extension.
