On Sunday, January 10th 2010 the Millburn NJ Fire Department responded to 517 Millburn Ave on a reported smoking manhole. As first arriving units were coming down the block they reported a heavy smoke condition showing from a 1sty row of stores and quickly called for a 2nd alarm. As companies began entry and attacking the fire, they found a well involved basement fire extending to the 1st floor and cockloft. Additional alarms were requested as fire threatened exposures on both sides and conditions hampered access to the basement. Crews were eventually able to regain access to the basement however fire later took control of the cockloft and exterior operations were ordered. There were no reported injuries.
