On Sunday, January 3rd 2009 the Haledon NJ Fire Department responded to 309 Central Ave on a neighbor reporting smoke coming from the attic. The Assistant Chief reported a working fire on arrival and requested mutual aid from Paterson and Prospect Park. Crews experienced dead hydrants on arrival as they operated one hand line through a rear doorway. As crews began knocking down basement fire, extension began to overtake the 1st floor.

Mutual aid companies arrived as fire started venting from the 1st floor windows and extend into the attic. Crews were eventually able to contain the fire to the exposure “B” side of the home before bringing it under control. Searches found dead pets and 1 firefighter was transported for smoke inhalation.
