On Wednesday November 13th 2013 the Passaic Fire Department responded to 24 Broadway on a reported fire. Companies found heavy smoke and fire in a 2sty mixed occupancy with attached exposures. A 2nd alarm was immediately called as crews began advancing in the building. Fire continued to extend upward and eventually through the roof as well as to the adjoining buildings. Members were ordered out of the building subsequent to a basement gas line letting loose and flaring up the stairs.
Companies went to an exterior attack as alarm levels increased and mutual aid companies arrived to assist with the exposure buildings. Fire was contained after damaging 4 exposure buildings and displacing 100 residents.
