1-29-06 - Newark All Hands - 47 North 13th St Shortly before 7pm on Sunday January 29th, the Newark Fire Department responded to 47 North 13th St at the corner of 7th Ave for a reported fire. On arrival, companies found a 3sty multiple dwelling over commercial building heavily damaged by a major gas explosion. A gas leak in the rear of the first floor ignited causing the side and rear walls to blow out of the building. The explosion was heard as far as a mile away and at least 9 surrounding properties received damage. 3 victims were injured, 1 critically. Cause of the leak and ignition source were still under investigation.
