On Friday, April 3rd 2026 at approximately 2330hrs the Paterson NJ Fire Department responded to the area of North Main near North Straight St for a reported building fire. Units on scene arrived to find a 200x300 1sty commercial fully involved. A 3rd alarm was immediately transmitted and rose to a 5th alarm within a half hour.
Companies had several issues with water supply prompting water relays from distant mains. Access to the building was also difficult due to tight back streets and collapsing walls of the structure. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from extending to an attached 4sty building but were unable to completely knock down the remaining fire as it was being fed from several broken gas pipes. PSE&G eventually secured the gas allowing firefighters to knock down the remaining fire.
The updated address on Piercy St was occupied as a previous chemical company and current EPA Superfund Site.
