Shortly after 2330hrs on Christmas Day 2008, the Garfield Police Department received a radio transmission from Car-25 reporting that he had been involved in a motor vehicle collision in which he struck a building. First due units reported a single vehicle (Patrol car) struck a 2.5sty mixed occupancy frame building on the corner of Outwater Ln and Prospect St. The officer received minor injuries and the vehicle had completely intruded the 1st fl exposure-A wall. <p> Firefighters entered the 2nd floor occupied apartments through a ground ladder on Exposure-A. With the front stairs taken out, residents were removed through a wall breach to a rear apartment and then down the rear stairwell. The UASI USAR unit was activated and rescue companies from Paterson, Hackensack, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, Morristown, and Elizabeth responded. Due to building design and location of impact, USAR crews only needed to shore the interior of the building around the collision. Cause of the collision is unknown.
