On Wednesday, June 30th 2010 shortly before 3am the Paterson NJ Fire Department responded to 465 East 31st St on a reported fire. First arriving units found heavy fire blowing out all front and side windows on all floors of a 3sty private dwelling. 2 residents were immediately found lying in the alley way between the Exposure-B dwelling. Command quickly called a 2nd alarm with reports of additional entrapments and fire quickly extending into the neighboring homes. Crews initially tried to make searches in the original fire building but were quickly pushed out by rapidly deteriorating conditions. A 3rd alarm with mutual aid (general alarm) was called to the scene as companies began to contain the fire. <p> Evacuations were sounded as the roof began to dip in on the Exposure-D building. The original fire building later collapsed with no injury to firefighters. A total of 4 victims died, 3 recovered later in the day with excavation equipment and the other was from injuries while in the hospital. 3 others had received injuries as well but survived.
