On Saturday, December 22nd 2012 shortly after Midnight the Paterson NJ Fire Department responded to 83 Carroll st for a reported fire. First arriving companies reported smoke from the 2nd floor windows and called a working fire. Upon further size up, it was found that the rear of the building was fully involved and citizens reported people trapped. A 2nd alarm was called as crews quickly began interior operations and searches. Crews were later withdrawn due to deteriorating conditions and it was determined that the occupants were rescued by passer-by's before FD arrival. Exterior operations continued for the better part of two (2) hours before conditions were tenable for companies to re-enter and knock down hot spots. There were no reported injuries.
