4-02-06 - Rutherford 2nd Alarm - 259 Washington Ave On the afternoon of Sunday April 2nd, the Rutherford Fire Department responded to 259 Washington Ave for a reported house fire. Blocks before arriving, companies could see heavy smoke and fire from the rear of the home. First due companies immediately attacked the fire with 2 and 2 1/2' handlines which kept the fire confined to the rear of the home. A 2nd alarm was requested on arrival due to fire conditions. The aggressive operations of interior companies as well as handlines in the rear yard, maintained the fire to the rear portion of the home. No injuries were reported and the fire was believed to have started on the rear deck.
